Thank you again Murray, your insights are always great even if I don't agree with all your conlusions.

For me Vettel is a deserving champion (whatever that means), this season was a titanic struggle and to come out on top in the last race (having never led the championship all season) means he is deserving. I personally feel he still has a lot to learn and prove as a racing driver, but there is no doubting his raw speed.

I agree with cordas to an extent. Certainly Vettel had the most points and his talent is enough to make him a deserving world champion. A good question to ask would've been: What do you think would've been the outcome if Alonso was driving the RedBull? Personally I think that he would've won the championship long before Abu Dhabi.

Would love to see a bit more of you on the coverage next year. A ‘Murrays magic moments’ segment every week perhaps, with loads of historic footage and insight from your good self. The Tyrell P34 and Brabham BT46B car entries , Estoril 1984, your emotional commentary when Damon Hill won the 1996 title are all examples that spring to mind.

Just a thought.

It's been a vintage year and then some (once Bahrain was out of the way); edge of the seat stuff, you'd probably have lost your voice this year Murray if you were still commentating! (Talking of which any chance of a guest appearance in the commentators box next year Murray??)

Thanks for answering all our questions again this year, look forward to hearing your views in 2011, which will hopefully be an even better year than this what with the re-introduction of Pirelli, McLaren & Ferrari (and Mr Webber) out to avenge 2010, an undoubtedly improved Mercedes / Schumacher combo etc. etc.

To put things in the right perspective, if Hamilton was also driving the redbull Hamilton would also would have won the world championship.

But then if Michael Schumacher was driving the Renault in 2005 / 2006 , then Michael would have also won the world championship much earlier than Alonso.

Point is Vettel is the world champion of 2010 and let us leave it at that.

SMI64 hammered the nail right on the head there. There's a lot of 'ifs' in sport... Vettel's champion, and that's the truth. To be World Champion, you have to be in the right car at the right time and be able to consistently beat your teammate and everybody else, whatever the machinery.

Murray, I would love to know your views on young Nico Hulkenberg being dropped by Williams :)

Didn't have the faintest that you were answering questions Murray. Good to hear you putting your points across as always. Vettel maybe deserving of the title but I do not believe him to be the best driver. The Red Bull was by far the best car as Vettel's 10 pole positions prove, yet the inability to capitalize on such a margin makes me doubt his race craft. However, being one so young it will only be a matter of time for him to prove how formidable he can be.
Can't wait for next season. If Mercedes get their act together then it'll be Schumacher playing bumper cars again...oh dear...

I have to take issue with overuse of the words "deserving" and "worthy" in the above posts in relation to Sebastian Vettel.

We won't know if he has been a worthy champion until we see how he handles himself during his championship year.

As far as "deserving" goes, I don't think he did deserve to win. There's no doubt that Red Bull deserved the Constructor's title, but when it comes to Seb:

Did he dominate and win the races he started from pole?
Did he make less mistakes than the other front runners?
Was he the best driver? (we know he had the fastest car)

I'm not convinced he deserved the title as much as - say - Alonso who was not only consistent but achieved great results from often lesser machinery. Having said that, I really wanted Hamilton to take the title.

Lord, I wish we had Murray here in the States. I can see, though, based on the comments, at least you folks across the pond appreciate his talent. As for the much anticipated 2011 season, I can't help but believe the big news and the one development that will add even more fevered competition will be the ascendancy of Mercedes. Watch for Michael to be truly back.

You absolutely hit the nail on the head every time! Thanks for an excellent review of 2010.

I agree with you that Mark Webber 'can' win again in 2011, but unfortunately this season, he made just a few too many mistakes - which cost him dearly. If Mark can avoid a similar run of errors in 2011, then yes, I think he can win, and also he's not only going to push Vettel very hard, but he'll throw a real challenge down to Maclaren, Ferrari and Mercedes.
