I will take a two week break but on 31 July. My review of Thomas Pynchon's Inherent Vice will be published here (there's an embargo). If I can get on the internet I will probably blog about Jez Butterworth's extraordinary play Jerusalem, which I have just seen. Otherwise, normal dismal-scientific service will be resumed here in the second week of August. Newsnight will of course be keeping you up to date with the public finances, economic crisis, green shoots, quantitative easing etc, at 2230 weekdays, ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ TWO.

The Beeb is doing a bit of navel gazing at the moment but it is asking itself the questions which tend to spoil the outcome we the punters want or need as a freethinking society.
THE TROUBLE IS IT ISNT DEMOCRATIC IN FACT IT IS CORRUPT AND SOMEONE SHOULD HAVE NOTICED THIS ABOUT 50 YEARS AGO. IT IS OF COURSE A DICTATORSHIP. Not only that but it:
SOCIAL STATUS FROM WIKIPEDIA, THE FREE ENCYCLOPEDIA social status is the honor or prestige attached to one's position in society (one's social position). The stratification system, which is the system of distributing rewards to the members of society, determines social status. Social status, the position or rank of a person or group within the stratification system, can be determined two ways. One can earn their social status by their own achievements, which is known as achieved status, or one can be placed in the stratification system by their inherited position, which is called ascribed status.
encourages the above. The pushiest ones with the biggest mouths last for generations or forever and so the corruption goes on and on and on. The most honourable ones get shoved off altogether or put onto a channel nobody watches or get left in their interesting but boring rutted slots.
This is not acceptable at all and unless something is done sooner rather than later we should start naming names and the punters should decide what THEY want instead of what is wanted for us. Discuss:
