And the winner is (really) ...

, the Welsh culture minister (and former clergyman) who announced the wrong winner of the Wales Book of the Year Award -- to the great embarrassment of the novelist Tom Bullough -- is to return to the awards circuit this weekend. On Saturday night, he will announce the winners of the British One Act Play Awards in Swansea. Oh dear. The words of the Bard come to mind:

O, I have passed a miserable night,
So full of ugly sights, of ghastly dreams,
That, as I am a Christian faithful man,
I would not spend another such a night,
Though 't were to buy a world of happy days.

[Richard III, Act 1, Scene 4]

    And the winner is......

    "'Fake' priest exposed at Vatican"

Well they didn't say what his name is. And considering that he was discovered, he is not likely to receive an Oscar for method acting. What is the punishment for impersonating a priest, 5 years...of saying hail Marys? If he is Catholic, could they ex-communicate him? Will he be prosecuted? Would that be the Christian thing to do? Considering the shortage of priests in the Catholic Church, they might try to recruit him to become a real priest.

"The judge said much of the work of the tribunal involved petty thefts of Vatican visitors' wallets."

Well at least it wasn't sexually mollesting children the way so many real priests do. Does this relatively minor infracton mean he's going to hell? Imagine all the parishoners who gave confession to this fake priest and as a result, if they died would go to hell. Can they sue for false absolution?

Ya know, I think it's pretty neat. Maybe one day I'll try it...not to steal wallets or anything criminal, just to meet the pope...and see if I could get away with it. :-)
