Fifteen

Eddie Mair | 16:44 UK time, Friday, 6 October 2006

minutes to go.

There's still some discussion in the office about what ourlead story should be. And Becky's report may not be ready. And we're not sure about the opening.

This is quite normal.

Or is it a case where you had this all planned out this morning in true "Dr Evil" fashion? "Aha!" you thought. "I can give the blog the title Fifteen and then post fourteen silly blogs before hand to try and get everyone so riled up before 5pm that they boycott the first 15 minutes,. That would let us get away with a quarter hour of static, and no-one would notice!"

StainlessCat, AnnaC, Valery, the various Johns, STROPStephen, FrancesO and Dr Hackenbush are beginning to feel like neighbours. The frisson between FF and Appy is juddering through my body as I speak (has Valery sent her rockwhacker back to the hire shop, or has she lent it out?). What Eddie was up to this afternoon with his multiblogs heaven only knows.

When I grow up I shall find this kind of thing a complete waste of time. In the meanwhile, it's a blast . . .

Given that Eddie's become so adept with the technology (my postcards don't flicker, by the way), and Lissa's obviously underemployed as only the editor of PM, WATO and WTW - and probably moonlighting as one of the presenters on The Mint - it shouldn't be TOO much trouble for either, both or all of them to set up a PM chatroom, should it? Then we could just all hang out all day and lob the odd amusing comment into the mix, and . . . well, just chill.

I think Eddie was playing with us today. I may have to transfer my allegiance to Jonothan Ross.

sb19 and I am NOT going (honestly I'm not) to check all the latest entries on the millions of other blogs under PM's name. They are but harengs rouges, designed to put us off the scent of what is Really Going On.

During a trip to NZ a few years ago, my husband stepped backwards in front of a museum exhibit & collided with the man behind him. The man apologised(being English) though it wasn't his fault. So we didn't watch it that often, although the Brits would all phone each other up to let us know when the weather was good and telly was on. Once I was watching Chariots of Fire when clouds gathered (real ones) twenty mins before the end and I was left with the test card to watch. Never did see the end. Anyway, one Sunday lunchtime it was sunny so we switched on to see if the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ News was on and lo and behold! there was my brother in law acting as a spokesman for the London Hospital, chatting about how all the London hospitals were ready for any crisis. It's the only time he was ever on TV (I think) and we were abroad, hardly ever able to watch and with no idea he would be on screen.

I seem to recall that we all thought, as good little children, we would go to heaven, but would probably have to endure a spell in purgatory first due to the stain of sin and all that.

Annasee (33), that sort of chance is actually smaller than you might expect. Two members of a group I'm involved with bumped into each other at Istanbul station - and both were skiving off that week. I've come across loads of NZ classical musicians, (probably the most famous one relivent to this blog is non other than Brian Perkins (double bass)) but I cannot think of one Australian. No doubt will be corrected...

And in general, I certainly think the Haikus that greet the unexpected weekend-strap lines are at least relivent and amusing, so I disagree with Lady P (but welcome back) about poetry. Not that you would catch me writing any, taking, for the most part, the Wodehouse line on this sort of bilge.

Happy belated birthday Dr H, did you have a cake?

I checked your photos out yesterday Whisht (you had added more to the other day's, or did I not look propery first time round?) and was inspired to try (again) to upload some. (If anyone remembers, that last time I tried it, I got the impression the whole of the inside of the pc was getting sucked past my eyes, so I aborted). This time I thought I'd try the emailing method, but the email just bounced back :o(. I know some of you guys keep giving me hints and tips on "young people's stuff", but where am I going wrong again?

Ap, I'm glad you are revising thoughts on jane h., I have always been so impressed by her, and felt ridiculously sad that you felt so strongly against her!

Re furballs/catsick/dead mice-as-gifts etc, I'm so glad Pluto is a dog, we've just had a fantastic autumnal walk. What is the predominant colour of nature where you all are? We are still VERY green for this time of year (lets blame David Cameron) - but, once I again I thought, I'll go and check out the secret sloe bush and just pick them anyway even though we haven't had the first frost. Harrumph - 2, count them 2 left. So I shan't get much sloe gin out of that lot

Actually, do you think a little dab of said substance would sooth my nose just now? The vaseline's OK but it needs topping up far too often :(

Doc, I know you didn't want cake so I've got you a big cigar. You don't have to smoke it - I just thought it would suit you somehow...

Are you really saying that John H and I are bad boys? It's all just an attempt to make our friends here smile, honest!

As for your question, it's got to be worth a try, but I'd also try aqueous cream (available in tubes or tubs from pharmacies or big supermarkets like Tesburys). That's a very good moisturising agent, plus it's good as an emollient as well. (I know this as I get psorasis, and it's a good way to ease a flare up of that).

hmm, I can just imaging Doc H walking around with his big cigar, glasses and a large black moustache...

It's all quite green here too. There was a springiness around earlier when ventured out into the back garden (that's as far as I've been today).

I have got quite a lot of work done today though, sore nose or not.

    Fearless (62),

Sorry to hear about the psoriasis, hope it's under control. I too have long been a user of aqueous cream - used to whack it straight on my feet after swimming to avoid horrible dry heels - but I don't have any at the mo as I've found that there is an even better thing for feet (name escapes me) and for most other things there's usually some expensive, specialist, girly cream, that I've been persuaded to buy, against my better judgement. I might try that foot stuff on my nose - even though it just seems wrong you know?

Oh roll on tomorrow afternoon - I'm expecting to feel better and so am going to have the afternoon off in lieu of having done lots of work this weekend. Hurrah! Anyone want to play out?

well, I'm sorry I was away but I was with my sister for her birthday and so missed Doc H's - happy birthday!

    what else have i missed??!
Well people have been looking at me photos - eek!!
Well thankyou! erm, I didn't invite anyone to do this (hence some people saying "hey what?") but happened to comment while on Flikr looking at the PM postcards and my comment leaves a link to photos I put on Flikr ages ago - actually very dull stuff - photos of me giving-up-work since last november (hm, not retiring, just taking a break - now back in the thick of it I'm afraid!)
All I can say is thankyou to all your kind words to a guy confronted with a beautiful view and responding with a simple snap!
Valery - I use the Flikr Uploader to upload. I'm not techy so won't recommend, but I'm not techy and it worked well enough for me!

what else?? well Frances - I'll get to you soon...

    um KY - OK?!!? probably...
    [ahem]

Charles(28) - congratulations! I'm in awe and glad it was you as it couldn't happen to a nicer.. etc etc!! Lets hope that you never have recourse to use your own insight!

Aperitif - I hope your cold's getting better! and your advice (column) is always welcome ("Agony Aunty Appy"?!!?). and yes. I'm as thick as a wall.
FF(25) - yes - I think all men have heard this at one time or another (and some of us have heard it once too often!!) - btw, love the photos!!

Now, Frances O.... I'll start with (26) - a simple typo ("whist") and whaddya do?? Character assasination!?! I'm no cad!! (oh, hold on...)

and Frances - (39) - wha??!? I was as confused as Aperitif! Then we realise(45) that either you're graphically very advanced (too advanced?) or have a navel (maybe a novel) background!
Aperitif (somehow) knew what the hell I was going on about in (7). Though I'd forgotten it was called a "chad". Too much Nigel Rees as a kid methinks.

Wow! Yes, Whisht, I am impressed by Frances O's extensive knowledge of "The Chad" too, now that you've investigated and explained. I feel a curtsey (sp?) coming on! I forbid you to twist my meaning like that again!!!

Fearless, I confess, the nose was geting so sore I put the other stuff on it - it's not really foot cream (although I only use it on m'feet) - it's called "Epaderm" and it's like a gunky marriage of vaseline and aqueous. The idea was disgusting but the nose is much better, and I may be able to turn up at the office tomorrow not looking like I'm auditioning to be a Christmas-show reindeer.

I don't know why I felt the urge to share that, but there you go.

I don't know why the 123456789! I didn't notice until you asked - and it's on one and not the other????!!!!

The whole Kilroy/Chad/frog link was just too much (sorry, can't remember which intellectual giant came up with that) - hairs on back of neck tingling.

Drinks - have you athelete's nose? Hope it's better. The other stuff you only use on your nose for sucking up to your boss.

"Autumn" here is very green - ridiculously so. We're holding off on the sloe for the moment, but actually prefer damson gin. Coincidentally, got a few litres of that on the go yesterday.
