Now, in a PM Blog Exclusive, you can publicly declare what YOU will stop doing at the next general election.

Just use our handy template and leave your comment.

"I (YOUR NAME) hereby declare that I will stop (YOUR IDEA) at the next General Election."

Welcome to the AM Glass Box - your chance to help shape tonight's PM.

You may have read your morning paper and listened to the radio, and have some ideas you want to hear on PM tonight.

Perhaps a question about something in the news you would like answered - or better still, direct experience of something topical. Or maybe there's an aspect to a big story you haven't heard explored that you would like to hear.

Just as the PM Glass Box emulates the meeting we have AFTER the show, the AM Glass Box will be like the real meeting we have every day at 11.00, in that all ideas are welcome.

Just like the real meeting, most ideas that are suggested will not make it on air. But we would like to try this to see how it works. It's best that you make your suggestion before 10am.

"Hiya!

In case you heard the report from Pakistan on The World at One on Wednesday, here are some photographs to illustrate it - and the story in a nutshell.

In Mianwali, in far west Punjab. the police believe they have broken up a Taleban cell. On Tuesday night they confronted seven suspects - 'miscreants', as they're called here; there was an exchange of fire, and five of the men escaped - but two were arrested. No one was hurt on either side. Two AK47 rifles, an RPG launcher and a signifiant quantity of explosives were seized.

The police chief - the DPO (District Police Officer) thinks the men were part of a cell planning to kidnap Chinese engineers working at a hydroelectric project on the Indus river near Mianwali - and receiving orders and advice from the Taleban high command in the frontier area.

Sorry. I couldn't find a photo of needles in a back.

The point is (no pun intended) outlined by the Press Association: "People who suffer from lower back pain should get access to treatments including acupuncture and manual therapy, a health watchdog said today. The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (Nice) published new advice for those working in the NHS but admitted current access to the therapies varied across England and Wales. Key treatments recommended in the guideline include patients taking part in a tailored exercise programme for up to 12 weeks.

There's much more on the thinking at NICE .

What do you think?

In your experience, is this true?

Do you like trucking?

Sequin | 12:26 UK time, Tuesday, 26 May 2009

Comments

Why do we in Britain say lorry and our American friends say trucks? I'm sure someone knows the answer, but despite this being a field in Peterborough, these vehicles are undoubtedly trucks. Something, I think, to do with their brashness and sheer size.

BigTruck.JPG

Truckers are having a tough time at the moment - in contrast to nurses, as our reporter Michael Buchanan will tell us about on PM tonight - and some seem to be using their spare time to turn their vehicles into works of art.

PaintedTruck.JPG

Michael says the mood at this truck festival was uncertain about the future of their industry - although with the vast majority of goods in our homes and shops arriving by lorry (not truck), the industry is not going to disappear anytime soon.

know your legal onions?

Sequin | 12:21 UK time, Tuesday, 26 May 2009

Comments

On PM today Chris Vallance will take a look at the footers at the end of email; you know the kind of thing, the legal disclaimers which say things like:

"If you are not the addressee, any disclosure, reproduction, copying, distribution or other dissemination or use of this communication is strictly prohibited. If you have received this transmission in error please notify the sender immediately and then delete this e-mail."

That was at the end of an email from a swimming pool. Some of these footers can get very long and they waste a lot of paper when printed out (our office record currently stands at 11 pages of accumulated footers in one email exchange)

But do these legal notices actually serve any purpose? If you've an example of a particularly long winded, jargon filled and largely irrelevant email footer we'd like to hear from you.

Hello, me again.

Had an "exciting" night yesterday. Every Sunday I work from the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳'s Millbank studios and we present our programme, The Westminster Hour, from there at 10pm.

So there we were, beavering away last night when at 9pm - bang. The lights, computers, phones - everything - went out. Nothing. Huge power failure.

We had to make a snap decision to race over to Television Centre and present the programme from S1 - the studio from where PM/Today/Wato are all broadcast.

We work on the sixth floor at Millbank. The lifts weren't working and my editor last night is heavily pregnant. All added up to a bit of a challenging night!

Anyway, I think the only difference on air was that we had no Big Ben bongs. Just pips. Hopefully no-one noticed.

See you later,

sequin

Labour have held onto a council seat in the Salford constituency of Hazel Blears, the Communities Secretary. Are you surprised? Relieved? Do you think Hazel Blears has been victimised over her expenses claims? Or do you think she deserves everything she's getting? How do you feel about the way that her friends suggest a political vendetta is being waged against her by number ten? They arrive at that view because of the full backing that has been given by the Prime Minister to two other Cabinet ministers - Geoff Hoon and James Purnell who are also reported to have paid no capital gains tax on London properties they sold.

Just curious.

Lilac trees at St Basils.

"These ladies are from Ukraine. I said hello in tourist Russian and they burst into laughter "Ookrainer, OOkrainer" they giggled.

Then the smell of these lilac trees outside St Basils made me and my colleague stop to smell the roses if you see what I mean.

A few stops away on the metro at the Olympiski Arena the UK delegation is holding a Eurovision press conference.

Interesting, but no lilacs, and no babushkas."

Welcome to the Beach. The off topic place for froggers and peeps to be frivolous, have fun or just to chill out. The weather is always perfect, the sea is never cold and the breeze always warm and gentle, ideal for blowing away the woes of RL and flying kites. The company is always engaging and there is usually a something going on at 'The Nick Clarke' bar where tipples and nibbles can also be had. There are hammocks to laze in, a dog walking area and even a naughty step for those that want to self administer mild punishment! Whether it is a herd of camels wandering by, parties or semi organised beach games and activities there is always something to watch or join in with, so why not come and join us?

All we ask is that you be nice to everyone.

The Glass Box is where the PM team meets in at 18.00 every weeknight to discuss the content of the programme. The big talking point tonight could well be the theme tune's return.

We try to be honest with each other, but not hurtful, as we talk about what worked and what didn't...what met our expectations and what fell short.

This virtual glass box is where you're encouraged to take part in the same spirit. Tonight's PM editor Eloise Twisk will read your comments and may well add her own.

"The photo is of Komsomolskaya metro which I passed on the way to the commentary booth at the 1980's stadium, It was built for Moscow Olympics.

I stand out in the crowd for wearing a bright green checked shirt. I
am alone among men for doing so. The system is to walk fast knowing
where you are going. This is hard when you don't so I have adopted
controlled chaos approach, walking very fast and then stopping in a corner.

I must look like I have a heart condition.

Tonight's semi-final contains a man dressed as a green gimp. I suspect he'll be eliminated."

sauntering by. Then another. All watched by scores and scores of men
in uniform. A Ukranian backing dancer dressed in silver gladiators garb
just collided with a Russian army officer. Their hats are enormous.

Spent last night walking around the centre of Moscow, looking for a bar
called Club Millie. I swear a car drove by at one hundred miles an
hour, pursued vaguely by an old-style Panda car.

We talk to one of our hosts, Sergei of Eurovision, and he talks to us of
Manchester United.

Watch this space: As a gay-friendly event, there is all a stark
contrast with the city's own view of gay rights. Politicians don't like
gay public displays. A couple of years ago in advance of a planned
Pride march, a Muslim cleric was quoted as saying the paraders should
be "thrashed by decent people"."

I found him, working across the road in a shop. He said I'd promised to bring him the photo -"but I didn't think it would take six years!"

Polishing the British war memorial at the base in the desert which is now under US authority. 179 British dead since 2003. At least 3,500 Iraqi civilians have also died in the southern areas under British control. They have no memorial.

This dear little girl, Um al Benin, stepped into the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ hire-van and looked around, and put on my headphones and listened to part of a poetry recital I'd recorded at the weekend at a Basra arts festival. At one point, the poet referred to the Shatt al Arab. Um al Benin pointed down the street, and said "The Shatt al Arab is down there"."

The Glass Box is where the PM team meets in at 18.00 every weeknight to discuss the content of the programme. We stay six feet away from each other.

We try to be honest with each other, but not hurtful, as we talk about what worked and what didn't...what met our expectations and what fell short.

This virtual glass box is where you're encouraged to take part in the same spirit. Tonight's PM editor Roger Sawyer will read your comments and may well add his own.

An email arrives.

Welcome to the Beach. The off topic place for froggers and peeps to be frivolous, have fun or just to chill out.
