Congratulations go to this year's winner, 19 year-old Ruaridh Pattison from Kinross, whose accomplished performances of Little Melonae and Tears Inside on the alto saxophone impressed the judges.

The competition, now in its 5th year is a collaborative venture between The and the . The host for the evening was Stephen Duffy and the whole event was broadcast live on ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Radio Scotland's The Jazz House.
The other four finalists this year were 21 year-old pianist Peter Johnstone from Glasgow, 19 year-old drummer John Lowrie from Dumfries, 20 year-old double bassist Brodie Jarvie from Glasgow and 20 year-old trombonist Kevin Garrity, also from Glasgow.

The prizes on offer for the winner included £1000 for career developent, a ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Radio Scotland The Jazz House session, gigs at both the Glasgow and London Jazz Festival, professional biography and photographs plus a one-to-one master-class with .
On the judging panel this year were trombonist, composer and educator Dennis Rollins; Education Manager Yamaha Music, Bill Martin; Associate Director Serious and London Jazz Festival, Amy Pearce; and freelance jazz journalist, Jazz UK, Rob Adams.
After a performance by last year's winner, saxophonist , Dennis Rollins joined Stephen Duffy on stage to announce the winner of the 2011 competition.
