My PS3 lost its mind and travelled back in time!
So if you've been reading the news stories of all the PS3 drama You'll know the Sony online network went mad and couldn't work out the date at the end of Feb. This meant the old fat original machines were doing odd things like losing all your achievements and trophys and preventing peeps from gaming online. We even had trouble getting our slimline PS online in 1Xtra. Has this cheesed you off? Are you gonna sell your PS for an Xbox? or maybe just buy a ? Bearing in mind the PS online network is free which is a great bonus, unlike Xbox, so with this in mind, is this something you're willing to put up with?

I've had all three models and been very happy with them all. Anyone who switches because of this was just looking for an excuse anyway!

From the first few hours of its detection, it was narrowed down to being a fault with the internal clock and the firmware. At worst the only thing required to fix it was a firmware update. Said update does not require connection to the PSN, rather just an internet connection. Instead a lot of people jumped the gun and started wrongfully directing the blame at the PSN.
Certainly, trophies could be lost because of the syncing error if you tried to start a game that did this, but at the end of the day they're meaningless points and the console wasn't irreversably damaged. It's like losing the gold stickers your wife gave you every time washed the dishes.
I also feel i should point out that this was a simple programming bug revolving around a complex mathematical algorithm involving leap years, that fixed itself when 00:00 GMT on March 2nd rolled by, unlike the xbox with its numerous hardware faults that actually require the entire unit to be sent back to Microsoft for repairs or replaced in store.
As for Online capabilities, Microsoft is currently undergoing legal proceedings regarding their use of a points system for various reasons you can google for and i'm paying a fair bit of money each year for minimally more functionailty than that of the PSN. Sometimes i think the only real difference is the cross-game party chat, which some games like Modern Warfare 2 disable anyway, and with shoddy peer to peer multiplayer connections becoming all the rage for developers these days, there isn't even a cost for running dedicated servers anymore.
I also read recently that sony mentioned if they were to charge for an extra premium online service it may include features like unlimited free access to all of the PS One classic games. This, to me, is why i should be paying money for an online service. Exrtra features rather than basic functionality.
