12 May 2010 - There's been an accident

Picture of Deek in the mortuaryNever good words. Deek got the surprise visitors we all hope we'll never get - police on your doorstep with bad news. But Alice Henderson's death was totally out of the blue.

It's the end of an era for Deek and the Hendersons: all those years trying to help his mum, as she battled the bottle, and her demons. And Alice had demons by the gallon - all underpinned by her troubles with the drink.

The last time Deek saw his mum was when she left Shieldinch, in the devastating aftermath of his granda George's funeral. At this time Alice found out that her real father was her uncle, and vodka appeared to be the only source of comfort. When she fell off the wagon this time Deek reached the limit of his patience: he told her to get out of his life - for good.

Stella certainly hit the nail on the head, when she pointed out to Deek that his desire to rescue her was all about his relationship with his mum. But how will Stella be able to fix Deek? Can friendship, or love, patch over the cracks in a broken person?

Well, did not see that coming! Didn't think it would be Stella, but never even gave it a thought that it would be someone like Alice. 'Deek and Boab' have made me laugh on a regular basis, but their performances on this episode were very emotional. Well done to Steven and Gordon, and all concerned. RC is going from strength to strength, and long may it continue.

PS I really, REALLY hope the rumour referred to on a previous post re Johnnie Beattie retiring is just that - a rumour. To me he's not only Mr Gaietym Whirl, but Mr Sheildinch, and I hope he and Liz are there for a good while yet.

Och poor Deek, hes lost all of his family now.Had a feeeling it was Alice still very sad though. She was a really good actress in River City played her part as Deeks mum really well.Sorry to hear that she wont be comming back again to River City she was very good in the part she played.Stella will be good for Deek shes a lovely kind hearted lassie and its good that Deek realises she just wants to help him.Hopefully they will help eachother and be happy together.Deek needs Stella more than ever now that he has lost his mum.Im sure she will be their for him when he needs support and help. One good turn deserves another as Deek took Stella in and gave her a home and a good life again when she was on the streets.Unfortunately Molly scuppered their friendship, however the real truth came out and Deek realised he was wrong to judge her.Lifes too short to fall out with people you care about. Good luck to them both. The whole episode was excellent and really well acted.

Les, you must be psychic, as there were no clues whatsoever about the identity (unless I nodded off). Also Deek hasn't lost all his family - he's still got Uncle Raymondo :)

No you didnt drop off I just had a feeling that it was Alice still very sad though. Really felt for Deek as he had tried so hard to help his mum and now their was nothing else he could do to bring her back and change her life for the better.Och yes i forgot about Raymond being Deeks uncle. At least hes still got Raymond to help and support him through this sad time hes more like a father than an uncle.Im sure Raymond will allways be their when he wants to talk about his mum and remember the happy times they had together than the sad times.Bob is more like a brother than a friend to Deek,he will always be their for him too to help and support him when he needs to talk.
