Nicky Moss - Paraglider Pilot
Nicky Moss recently came first in the women's paragliding competition at the British Open in Àger, Spain, despite narrowly avoiding death earlier this year after both her parachutes failed during a competition.
Nicky was competing in Australia when strong winds caused her canopy to fold in on itself. She spiralled several hundred metres towards the ground before throwing her reserve parachute, which also malfunctioned, causing her to crash land in a forest. Luckily she came to rest hanging upside down 10 feet off the ground in a gum tree….
After this she thought seriously about giving up the sport, but managed to get back in the saddle to compete in the British Open in September, which she won.
Nicky is not the womens paragliding champion, I am.
The British Championships are held over three legs. Ager was the final leg and Nicky finished first female in this round.
I finished second female in the first leg, first female in the second leg and thrid female in ager (the final round).
I can understand how it is confusing, but my friends here in the villiage thought I should write in to set the record straight since mum has that big silver trophy on her shelf :-)
Also Nicky is not the number one British female pilot in the world rankings, I am and have been for some time. Please follow this link :
Complain about this postHaving just listened to the radio programme, I am now sadened that this great big mistake has been made.
I am the British Womens Paragliding Champion 2006. My friend told me this mistake had been made and I am shocked at how blatant it is.
Listening to Nicky I feel great empathy towards her and her experieince. I have had simialar experiences but I manage them very differently.
