World Pipe Bands Goes Global

The is a huge annual event that happens on Glasgow Green. This year for the first time we've got permission to webcast it live to the world. And we'll also have on-demand clips of all the Grade One bands available as soon as we can turn them around after the event.
8000 participants from all over the world take part, and 45,000 spectators. It's a hybrid of precision sport and musical prowess, and people get very passionate about it.
The Grade One Final is the main event and the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ films it for later TV broadcast within Scotland. But lots of the participants are from outside Scotland - last year's winner was Simon Fraser University from Canada. Usually ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ web video is restricted to within the UK, because of rights agreements (which are country-specific) and because it costs money to serve up video (people outside the UK don't pay a license, obviously). So, I had to persuade the powers that be to make a special exception, and thankfully for the global pipe bands community they said yes.
The webcast starts at 0900BST on Saturday 15th and runs until the announcement of the Grade One winner around 1730.
Then the tapes will be rushed over to Pacific Quay to be clipped up and transcoded to create all of the on-demand clips.
