Florence and The Machine

After a sellout show at the ABC in September, Florence brought her Machine back to Glasgow for another packed out performance at the Academy on Wednesday 9th October. We sent along Canadian guest blogger to her first Scottish gig and here are her thoughts:

Fiona wrote:

I was sad to miss Florence and the Machine when they passed through my hometown of Montreal earlier last month, but little did I know then that I'd have the opportunity to see the band again so soon - this time on their side of the Atlantic. For my first UK-concert experience, I couldn't have witnessed a more inspirational performance supported by a more enthusiastic crowd. While the latter, I was assured, was simply par for the course in Scotland, the true novelty of the evening was the sheer relentlessness and strength of Florence Welch's voice. Easily fit for the runway, Welch took command of the stage with a physical presence as dramatic and dynamic as the songs she sung. Transforming tunes like "Blinding" into epic "noise assaults", as Welch herself described it, while upping the vocal urgency of tracks like "Drumming Song" (yes, it's possible), last night Florence and the Machine brought their debut album "Lungs" to vivid, eardrum rattling life, making this show one permanently etched in my memory.
