³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ in the news, Friday
Daily Mail: Reports on a speech given recently by the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳'s head of TV News, which you can read in full on this blog. ()
The Scotsman: "BSkyB chief exec James Murdoch launched a withering attack on the British broadcasting industry, and the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ in particular." ()
The Telegraph: "Jeremy Paxman, notorious for his merciless interviews on Newsnight, has turned his fire on the show itself." ()
Comments
Paxman often makes somewhat disparaging remarks like that at the end of the programme, and it's obvious they're not intended to be taken seriously.
I thought he was being quite serious. The paucity of new ideas has to be highlighted and confronted and Jezzer should be applauded for putting the boot in.
Where does this nonsense come from? The "OhMyWhatACrapIdea" think-tank?
Paxman's exact words were:
"That's all from Newsnight tonight. Martha [Kearney]'s being punished for some offence in a previous life by presenting tomorrow's programme. In the meantime it's all available again on the website along with our editor's pathetic pleas for you to send some of your old bits of home movie and the like, so we can become the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳'s version of Animals do the Funniest Things. Good night."
So, if you think he was serious about the "old bits of home movie and the like", do you also think he was serious about Martha Kearney "being punished for some offence in a previous life"?
If Murdoch Jr's having a go at the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳, then they must be doing something right...
