Unsettled in October

I was away last week filming for the next series of Weatherman Walking: another two walks, one in Swansea and the other in Carmarthenshire following in the footsteps of Dylan Thomas.

We were lucky with the weather. Most of the time it was dry with some lovely sunshine although we did have some cloud, mist and on one day a little rain and drizzle.

Yesterday, I went for a walk with friends in Newport on the recently opened Graig Diamond Jubilee Path in Bassaleg. We could see right down to the coast and it felt more like summer than autumn!

Eglwyswen in Pembrokeshire was the warmest place in the UK yesterday with a high of 21.3 Celsius and Anglesey enjoyed nearly nine hours of sunshine but it鈥檚 all change today with a front bringing cloud and patchy rain.

The chart for tomorrow shows high pressure over Sweden and low pressure over the Atlantic. If this pressure pattern was repeated in the winter months it would be cold and windy with sleet and snow!

As we move into October, the first few days look unsettled. Low pressure over the Atlantic will move closer to Ireland pushing fronts and troughs across Wales. These will bring showers and longer spells of rain at times, with some significant rainfall in places. It will also be breezy or windy but with temperatures generally on the mild side.

Next weekend looks better - much drier and more settled thanks to a ridge of high pressure. I will keep you posted and of course you can follow me on Twitter .
