Straight talking from Straight Lines

Post categories:

Bethan Elfyn Bethan Elfyn | 15:38 UK time, Friday, 5 March 2010

So like I said in my previous blog entry, this week has been the story of rock for me, and it started with a Maida Vale session from Straight Lines.

They were nominated from a whole host of band to play the Maida Vale Intorducing weekender, where the Introducing shows across the UK have a weekend to put loads of bands in session.Ìý We picked Straight Lines, they got through to the final line up, joining Django Django and others for the two day's record.

The videos, session tracks and interviews are all up on bbc.co.uk/introducing but I also caught up with the band at their album launch last week at Clwb Ifor Bach in Cardiff to talk "Persistence In This Game".

Beth: So you are probably excited about the album launch. Are you happy with the results?

SL: Very happy. We did it all ourselves. Produced it ourselves, recorded it ourselves in our own little studio in a garage. Our bass player was the captain of the ship producing it, and from that to... we were walking down the street in Nottingham the other day, walked into a music shop and there it was on the shelf, and we had little pats on the back to ourselves. Definitely, we're really proud of what we've done.

Beth: Following you on Twitter, and its just been nuts, you're doing it, living the dream, touring, and playing a different city every day.

SL: We've hardly had time to think about the album launch as we've been so busy doing other stuff, touring and playing, sessions and press. Last night we had a get together with a few mates, who we've not seen since beginning of the year. Another three weeks to go of touring too.

Beth: Maida Vale. What was it like?

SL: It was weird. We pulled up and thought 'wow, all these people have recorded here'. It was all recorded live, no overdubs or anything, which was cool. It was just a massive honour to record in Maida Vale as so many bands have recorded there. We enjoyed every minute of the experience, of just being there.

Beth: Where do you go from here? We hear you're touring with the Automatic.

SL: We've got three shows booked at South By Southwest festival, if we get enough money together, hopefully do a few festivals and we've started writing album number two. We just don't want it to slow down, if not on tour we'll write and record and take that on tour and so on. Keep moving on.
