Episode Guide
Doublemeat Palace

Trivia

They Eat People, Don't They: The whole idea of Buffy's that people are the main ingredient of the burgers was the theme of 1973 sci-fi flick Soylent Green. Charlton Heston plays a man who discovers that mankind's population and starvation problem are being solved in just that way. The film was based on the book Make Room, Make Room! by Harry Harrison.

Made for each other: Buffy likens the Doublemeat process bringing the cow and the chicken together even though they've never met to Sleepless in Seattle if Meg and Tom were minced. A big comedy hit in 1993, Sleepless in Seattle features a widower's, (Tom Hanks), son who goes on national talk radio to find a new wife for his lonely dad. Across the country, driving from Baltimore to Washington D.C., Annie Reed, (Meg Ryan), hears him, gets in touch and the pair eventually meet and fall in love.

Totty alert: Willow notes that the geeks had numerous pictures of that Vulcan women from Enterprise in their lair, that would be Jolene Blaylock, who plays T'pol.

Hell Toupeé: The most obvious visual reference for the monster exploding from the old lady's bewigged head is the sci-fi film Alien. The film was directed by Sir Ridley Scott, who made his name with some of the most memorable films of all time, including Thelma and Louise, Blade Runner, Gladiator, and Black Hawk Down.

A word from our sponsors: Doublemeat Palace was first heard (but not seen) in a TV commercial Amy watched in Smashed.

Slaying tips: Buffy mentioned she has waitressed before in L.A in a diner with lots of people who didn't tip. It's a reference to season three's opening episode Anne.

Where have I seen you before?: Halfrek is played by Kali Rocha. She's previously appeared as Spike's unrequited love Cecily in Season Five's Fool For Love. Could they be one and the same character?

Fashion: Dawn wears the cutest kitten T-shirt in this episode. The Cult team loves kittens.

Fast Food: Sarah's first acting job was a commercial for Burger King at the age of four. The gig got her more than her first acting paycheck - it got her sued. She was named in a lawsuit McDonald's filed against their rival burger joint because she said, "Do I look 20 per cent smaller to you? I must have at McDonalds because their hamburgers are 20 per cent smaller than Burger King's." It was the first time a company used another company's name in a commercial. McDonald's sued Burger King, the advertising agency, and Sarah herself.

From burgers to beans: The Double Meat Palace location was actually the Hot Diggity Dog fast food place on the North East corner of Palms and Sepulveda boulevards in West Los Angeles. Hot Diggity Dog is now closed and has been turned into a Yuppieish Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf joint. The landmark blue and yellow paint job has apparently been covered by a ghastly-good-taste coat of beige. (Thanks to Diana Davies).
