When my German girlfriend was doing an internship in San Francisco she kept seeing advertisements for "rent-a-cellphone". Not realising that cellphone was US English for mobile phone, she assumed you could rent your own telephone box because the German word is Telefonzelle, lit. telephone cell. She wondered if this was a solution for housing problems ...
