Jèrriais (Jersey Norman)
I'm an American and I may culturally be well-placed as an American, but my family is from Jersey, and if asked to identify myself, I would put myself first and foremost with my roots on Jersey. Lately I have been desperately trying to learn my family language, Jèrriais (Jersey Norman), which was once spoken all over the island while Norman was spoken all over the rest of Normandy. Norman was once the ruling language of England! But the language is now dying. And now few people have ever even heard of it. Few people indeed understand what it's like to have their language reduced to a state so near death. I cannot describe the sorrow it brings me. Dgieu sauve lé Nouormand!

I am so sorry for the state that your ancestral language is. Take all steps possible to preseriving that as best you can.
