Hooligans and Peeping Toms

On a French exchange trip back in 1991, I got into a conversation with some locals about football. The conversation got round to hooliganism and I tried to say that there weren't as many hooligans at English football stadia as there were 5 years earlier. Unfortunately voyou ("lout") came out a bit too much like voyeur ("voyeur"). They all laughed but I hadn't realised my pronunciation mistake and thought they just didn't believe me!
