An interesting career move
I spent some time as a student in Germany and one afternoon I was in a cafe discussing career plans with a friend of mine. I was explaining that by keeping my options open, if I ended up in a job I wasn't keen on in a particular organisation, I could always take a 'side step' into another department. Unfortunately I told him that if things didn't work out in the job I would always have the option to make a Seitensprung, which in German means to have an affair!

I heard the words Seiteneinstieg and Quereinstieg, but these are rare. The usual way to express this would be Quereinsteiger or Seiteneinsteiger, the person who takes a side step.
Be careful with the literal translation of 'side step' in Hungary too, it means the same as in German.
