There's no place like home
NÃl aon tinteán mar do thinteán féin. Probably the most famous of all Irish proverbs, literally meaning 'there's no hearth like your own hearth', i.e. There's no place like home.

My father, who was a fluent Irish, liked to say "NÃl aon tóin tinn mar do thóin tinn féin." There's no sore bum like your own sore bum!
AithnÃonn cÃaróg cÃaróg eile. One beetle recognises another beetle - it takes one to know one.
Irish: in song "Take her up to Monto ..." the phrase "Pog ma hohn" occurs. I was told it meant "Kiss my a**e" but didn't know which word was which until "Pog" (Kiss) turned up as the title of dual text poem by Meg Bateman. (Scottish Gaelic)
"The queen she came to call on us,
She wanted to see all of us.
I hope that she don't fall on us,
She's eighteen stone!"
