³ÉÈËÂÛ̳

Right sentence, wrong phrase

I have a Polish colleague and have picked up a few phrases that I like to throw into conversation whenever I get the chance. Unforunately I am not writing them down, just remembering them as best I can, so now and again I pick the wrong phrase out of the doldrums of my brain. Just the other day my friend sneezed and I searched the old grey cells but instead of finding na zdrowie, bless you, I smiled and told her zamknij siÄ™, shut up. Not so much a problem with the delivery, more so with my shot selection.

My friend found it funny - I think I mixed it up as the phrase zamknij siÄ™ actually sounds like a sneeze!

:)
Polish families are more complex, e.g. in English we've got niece, but in Polish there are two words for that depending whether it is a daughter of your sister (siostrzenica) or of your brother (bratanica). The same goes with nephew - if he's a son of your brother it's bratanek and if of a sister it's siostrzeniec.

:) however, it's not so hard to remember that

Know what you mean. I mixed up siostra with ³¦Ã³°ù°ì²¹ and asked a friend's sister if she was his daughter...

Oooh, that's got to hurt, what did your friend say?
