Middleman on the Unsigned Stage

Sunny Sunday

³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Raw Talent's Katy Noone sends her blog from behind the scenes of the Unsigned Stage at Leeds Festival 2007.

Sunday 26 August 2007

Sunday morning, half eight, already up and about with my first cuppa. It's going to be a long day and night. We broadcast live from here tonight on ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Radio Humberside and ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Radio Leeds and will be playing out some of our recordings from the new music Stage. More about that later.

Everyone still talking about the Kaiser Chiefs gig last night in the bars and in the campsite. But it’s not my best festival moment believe it or not. Round about 8pm last night, Leeds band Middleman headlined the new music Stage and drew a huge, dancing, singing crowd. It's hip hop with the most gorgeous harmonies blended throughout. And live… you've got to see this band!Ìý You can't help but dance.Ìý The bass player hops around, dreds flying and you could tell the band were loving every minute and so were the crowd.

I also caught up with Little Man Tate yesterday. Hard to believe they were knocked out in the first round of the Scunthorpe Rock Open a couple of years ago! Now they’re on the Main Stage at Leeds. Wow! Had a good chat with the band’s John and Maz about the old days before they were signed to V2. They’re still the same lads they were then, success hasn’t changed them at all and their Main Stage performance? Brilliant.

So today, loads more good bands on this stage where I'm working including three from Hull – The Talks, The Neat and Kill Surf City. Should be good. Then live from here later with our show. Listen to us on www.bbc.co.uk/humber or www.bbc.co.uk/leeds . We'll de-rig late into the night and then spend the rest of it sitting round talking about the weekend. It's our night for letting our hair down once the work's done.Ìý

And the sun's still shining on Leeds.

Don't miss the Raw Talent festival special, Sunday 26 August 8-10pm - listen live online.
