Walking into the ground, I felt that the substitute for the Caribbean carnival was on an extremely small scale. The atmosphere was of high spirits although there was a sense of disappointment, not because of the fun day in general, but because of the enormously successful carnival not taking place at all.

There was a lot of entertainment for the younger children, including races, bouncy castles and other inflatables. These seemed to keep the kids occupied for hours, although the teenagers were left with not much to do. However, the entertainment was interesting, with local children doing dances, traditional drummers and other local people performing with a lot of effort. There was also hair braiding available and a couple of stalls to depart with your hard earned cash. The food offered was traditional Caribbean food, such as jerk chicken, curry goat and ackee-fried rice, which seemed to go down a treat. The variety was great and it was possibly my favourite part of the day!

The Caribbean fun day was a nice day out, much better than doing nothing at home. The weather was great and the food was brill, although in terms of it replacing the carnival, I don't think it was quite there. So for next year I just have one more thing to say, BRING BACK THE CARNIVAL! |
