Dave waits for film reviewers

Share an film experience with Dave

Take part in a unique, free and virtual environment project from ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Voices and get to know Dave, the Digital Audio Visual Experience that is touring Norfolk.

As the lights come up at the end of a film there's usually one of two reactions. You're so excited about what you have seen at the cinema that you can't wait to tell everyone, or the movie was so bad that you almost choke on your popcorn.

Films bring out the best and worst in us – we all have an opinion - and now is your chance to let rip and share those thoughts with Dave.

"Dave is very friendly and loves people and is always interested in what you have to say and are getting up to," said ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Voices producer Gary Standley.

"Dave won't play tricks on you, so you don't have to worry about going along for a visit. We think Dave will be a big hit all over the county," he added.

Dave at the movies

Dave's tour of the county has brought him to the Odeon Cinema on Norwich's Riverside, giving cinema goers the chance to talk about the films they've seen.

Dave stands for Digital Audio Visual Experience. It's a mobile film studio that records your thoughts and feelings on a range of issues – and right now wants to hear from budding film reviewers.

³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Voices has been working with virtual environment specialist Paul Strickland of Xenodu to create Dave.

"My background is as a digital artist with a special interest in creating virtual reality environments for events and public installations," said Paul.

"I'm interested in taking a space and making it into something different and letting people experience the emotional impact of this.

"Dave has been travelling round Norfolk giving people the chance to open their hearts on all sorts of things and we thought it would be good to get Dave to meet a few film reviewers," he added.

"We are looking for people to come into Dave when they've seen a film and say what they thought of it," said Gary.

"We will be recording their comments and hope to show some of the reviews on the big screens at the complex before the main features start."

You don't have to watch a movie at the cinema to showcase your film reviewing skills. If you've recently seen a film on DVD or TV at home, you can come in and record your review.

If you have a favourite that you have watched over and over again, then here is a great chance to tell the world why you think that film is so great.

Review tips

If paying a visit to Dave, here are some top tips on presenting a film review:

  • Make sure to tell viewers the name of the film you're talking about
  • Share your feelings and thoughts about the film
  • Talk about your favourite bits
  • And while you don't want to spoil the plot for others, make sure they know what the film is about, so think how you would describe it to them

Fun with Dave

Dave has become quite a cult figure since coming to life in September 2007, with visits to the Millennium Library in Norwich and Great Yarmouth College.

Now based at the Odeon cinema on Riverside, it's free to visit Dave any time the Odeon cinema complex is open.

Dave is the latest in a series of projects run by ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Voices in Norfolk. Based at The Forum in Norwich, the Voices centre uses the skills and resources of the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ in a range of ventures, including film-making and radio.
