Cromer

Cromer sits like a crown on the North Norfolk coast and is renowned for its history of the sea, fishing and crabs.

Some of Cromer's finest views can be found early in the morning as the fishermen bring their catch ashore or in the evening as the sun slips into the sea at sunset.

The town's skyline is dominated by the church of St Peter and St Paul which sits in the middle of town. Perpendicular in style it has the highest tower in Norfolk at 160 feet.

The current Cromer Pier, which is still home to a traditional end of the pier variety show, dates from 1901.

More than 8,000 people live in the town today, but it was the Victorians who first swelled Cromer's visitor numbers, putting the town on the map as a seaside destination.

Despite the town's reliance today on the tourist trade, it remains a working town. Crabs that have been caught locally can be sampled in many of the town's pubs and restaurants.

The town is also an administrative centre, being home to North Norfolk District Council's headquarters and a centre for sport and leisure facilities.

One of the busiest periods for Cromer is the town's annual carnival week when thousands of visitors make their way to North Norfolk to enjoy the event.
