Ten Town TourYou are in: Norfolk > Places > Ten Town Tour > Dereham DerehamEast DerehamEast Dereham or Dereham, is situated approximately 15 miles west of Norwich and 25 miles east of King's Lynn, just off the A47 which links the two. The market town is one of the largest in Norfolk with some 16,000 residents. The origins of the town date back to before the Saxon era. Many of the town's ancient buildings were destroyed in a fire in the 17th century, however, the St Nicholas Church and nearby Bishop Bonner's cottage, which is now a museum, both survived the fires of 1581 and 1679, and still stand today. The war memorial in the centre of the town was erected on 22 October ,1922, to honour all of the East Dereham men and women who had died in the Great War between 1914-1918. On Tuesdays and Fridays, the town comes to life with its weekly markets. From fruit and veg to pet food, this thriving market town has a cosmopolitan mix of people which keeps on developing.
