Although born and raised in England I have lived in Portadown for over ten years now. Married with two young children I spend my days working as an IT consultant but increasingly spend my spare time writing poetry and short stories. In 2004 I was a runner up in the 成人论坛 End of Story competition.

A word with the power
to stop a clock,
still tongues
and darken rooms.
A shell so spiked
it sticks, even
in the throats
of doctors.
Instead they use
the cleaner words:
Oncology,
Malignancy.
A scuttling disease
finding a crack
and prising
open.
The lucky ones
stagger back
into their lives
gasping, newborn.
With fresh holes
that let in light
and the wind
at new angles.
