Helen's Bay by Pauline Burgess

Dogs on leads, choking through the breeze

Waves furling in, shuddering on the sand

The path curls, we stop, turn around

And breathe in the seascape

Fishing boats bob on the distant horizon

Children play, birds rise and flick towards the blue

We feel we should somehow linger in this haven

This summer idyll without a care

We saunter dreamily towards the grassy plain

Make promises as we cross the little bridge

We will be happy, the two of us

Shouldering home the silence

Somehow we know we'll have more lazy days

Enveloped in love and hope and plans

You and I are building memories here

As we walk falteringly towards our future.
