Basanta Kar
Stephanie Conn

Stephanie is originally from Newtownards, Co. Down but now lives with her family in County Antrim. She has taken a break from full-time teaching to spend more time with her young daughters and concentrate on her writing. She has been published in ‘Speech Therapy‘.

Driven by Stephanie Conn

Mastering love in adolescence:

Better to have stayed inside reading lies,

Than trying to shovel the relentless swell of snow.

The spade struck the bottle with a crack;

Tomorrow ' s milk seeping out onto the frozen drift.

Shattered underfoot, slivers of glass shone in the moonlight,

Reflecting distant stars.

Yes, better to have stayed inside,

Than greet those prodding fingers, pilfering her youth.

‘ Delectable, ' he shuddered, as though appraising a personal masterpiece.

He did not care to read between the lines.

Didn ' t care for the bold, plain print

Or for the girl playing grown up.
