Horace Ove is one of the pioneering African Caribbean
filmmakers in Britain.
Born in Trinidad, he's lived in Britain since the
1960s and used his film knowledge to show what it's like to be an
African Caribbean living in the UK.
Over the years he's charted the growth of the Notting
Hill Carnival and produced in depth studies of icons like Sir Trevor
MacDonald.
Ove's work has recently been on display at Nottingham
Castle. Inspired by this a project has been launched encouraging
African Caribbeans between 16 and 21 to document what it's like
to live in Nottingham in 2004.
The plan is to produce a film with the working
title Wordz Out.
Performance poets, rappers, MCs, DJs and film makers
are being encouraged to contact Nottingham City Council to get involved.
A number of young people from Sneinton, Sherwood,
St Anns, Basford and Stockhill are already on board and have met
up with the inspiration behind Wordz Put - Horace Ove.
But the team are still looking for more people
to get involved.
The hope is that the film will be ready to show
at venues throughout the city during Black History month in October.
