The morning
started with a quick inspection of the overnight mosquito damage,
followed up with the obligatory morning malaria tablet munch. We
then geared up for a trip to the boat regatta, and readied ourselves
for more barter banter outside our hotel.

The
regatta |
Neil, our
cameraman, wore a watch which seemed a particular magnet for
the bumpsters (local street entrepreneurs), but despite their
offers to trade it for something else he declined.
At times
I felt I might have to step in and protect the two guys but
they seemed to adjust between being very polite English gentlemen,
to less jovial fellas, as the situation dictated. All this without
being nasty. They would make good diplomats.

Everyone
enjoyed the spectacle |
The Boat
Regatta was another vibrant affair with dancers, drummers, and
resident Gambians combining in full effect.
The added
spectacle of water activities like the Hawaii Five O style -
boat races to river swimming relays just made a good day better
both film wise and spectator wise.

The
Ranking Miss P |
We even
saw a play performed on the quayside about a magic calabash,
a wicked stepmum, and her pure young daughter.
That evening
we attended the Gamjam (a joint effort showcasing British and
Jamaican talent alongside Gambian artists) music concert. It
had been postponed from earlier because of the violent storms
of previous days. It featured the likes of Radio DJ - The Ranking
Miss P.
