October 2000
the journey
Devon Daley Dave Harper

day 3

Occasionally, back home, someone will say that they’ve seen me on the television, but it was nothing compared with what happened this morning.

Roots Boat Regatta
Roots Boat Regatta

On the walk between my room and the pool four people said they’d seen last nights TV show, hello Mr ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ they said. It was the same when we went into Banjul to buy a hat. I lost mine in last nights storm.

Spent the afternoon down on the waterfront, filming the Roots Boat Regatta. Huge crowds, heat, more people and more heat. The Gambian’s are so friendly, so open compared with us. I had feared being swamped by ‘hustlers’ but all went well.

Ranking Miss P
Ranking Miss P

This evening we did an interview with Ranking Miss P, which was really good, and filmed the ‘Gam-Jam’ music event at the hotel. Tomorrow we’re off to James Island, which is up the river Gambia, to see the remains of the slave fort. My guess is that it will form the climax to the programme.
