Student Housing: Where and how much?

West Bridgford

West Bridgford
It’s been anticipated for weeks now but the housing question has finally caught up with you.

Report by Francesca Boyd, Platform

It only seems like yesterday since you first moved into student halls.

Now you are looking for a new home with your new chums.

Here is advice on where you might like to live and how much it might cost...

Popular areas for students studying at the Clifton campus:
1. Clifton
2. The Meadows
3. West Bridgeford
4. Wilford
5. Ruddington
Popular areas for students studying at the City campus:
1. Bobbersmill
2. Carrington
3. Forrest Fields
4. Hyson Green
5. Mapperley
6.New Basford
7. Radford
8.Sherwood
9. Sneinton
10.St Anns

"Clifton, West Bridgeford and Bobbersmill seem to be some of the most popular areas, generally you’ll find that the closer the property is to the city centre the higher the rent will be." Stuart Bowley, Country Wide Estate Agents
Average rent for student accommodation by area starting with the least to most expensive:
1. Sneinton £30
2. Clifton £35
3. The meadows £35
4. Bobbersmill £35
5. Hyson Green £35
6. Radford £40
7. Forrest fields £40
8. New Basford £40
9. Sherwood £40
10. St.Anns £40
11. Carrington £40
12. Ruddington £45
13. Wilford £50
14. West Bridgeford £55
15. Mapperley £60

Rent may vary according to area but may also be subject to negotiations with the landlord. You will find that the best-kept properties are slightly more expensive than the more "shoddy" ones and remember properties are also subject to inspections, which may also have an effect on the price of the rent.

After searching through "the good old" Yellow Pages a good hour or two was spent literally stuck to the telephone trying my hardest to find estate agents which were student friendly, the words "sorry we don’t deal with student accommodation was ringing in my ears for hours, however my efforts have managed to provide you with a top 5 student friendly estate agents:

Top 5 Estate agents that deal with students
1.Countrytry wide 0115 950 1400
2.Gascoines 01636 813245
3.Spencer Birch 0115 941 3678
4.Tanners 0115 958 9979
5. Barrett Lettings 0115 9 508 998

However, you could always try the Nottingham property guide every Thursday in the evening post or try "door to door" enquiries.
