The circular Radcliffe Camera, completed in 1749, was conceived as a library of science and medicine, but now holds works history and English literature collections as part of the Bodleian Library. The library is not open to the public. The ornate gates on the east of Radcliffe Square belong to All Souls. The tower on the south side of the square belongs to the university church of St Mary The Virgin, where Her Majesty the Queen attended a service on 21 May, 1999.
