³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Two Autumn 2007

Programmes T-W

Top Gear

Ìý

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May are back behind the wheel of Britain's most talked-about motoring show, which returns for a new run this autumn.

Ìý

Last year's most watched series ever was proof, if proof were needed, that you don't have to be a petrolhead to love Top Gear – you just need to love sheer, bloody-minded entertainment laced with the acerbic wit and schoolboy banter of three grown men who really should know better.

Ìý

Fans can look forward to regular treats such as Star In A Reasonably Priced Car, the enigma that is The Stig and, of course, the unexpected...

Tribal Wives

Ìý

Six British women are given the opportunity to travel to some of the most remote parts of the world and experience life as "tribal wives".

Ìý

The series sees the women give up their everyday lives to spend a month living with some of the world's most remote tribes – in Tanzania, Namibia, Ecuador, Panama, Indonesia and Ethiopia – and acting as a "second wife" by shadowing a tribesman's real wife in her daily duties.

Ìý

Viewers gain an insight into how tribal women really live in a way that has never been explored before. They can follow the progress of the tribal wife to see if she is accepted by the community and is able to rise to the challenges thrown at her by her new life – or whether she simply misses her Western lifestyle too much to truly benefit from the experience.

Tribe

Ìý

Bruce Parry returns for his most exciting and exotic series of adventures yet as he joins six remote tribes from across the world, sharing their everyday lives, learning their philosophies and joining in their rituals.

Ìý

From the freedom of travelling 400km with the Nenets in Russia to the intimacy of sharing an island just 2 km square with the Anutans in paradisiacal Polynesia, Bruce undergoes a series of physical trials and spiritual tests which leave a lasting legacy in his heart.

Ìý

He is used to immersing himself in all parts of tribal life, from hunting wild pigs to undergoing unpleasant cleansing rituals. But how will he cope with making 10,000 yak butter candles to atone for his sins in what a Bhutan Buddhist astrologer insists is his "emotional disaster" of a life? Reincarnation as a monkey may be the best it gets.

The Tudors

Ìý

This lavish and seductive historical drama takes a fresh look at the early life of Henry VIII, played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Mission Impossible 3), in a performance that completely dispels the image of the old, overweight and infirm ruler.

Ìý

The Tudors focuses on Henry's rampant life during his late twenties and early thirties while he was still married to his first queen, Catherine of Aragon, but pursuing Anne Boleyn as well as every other pretty face that caught his wandering eye.

Ìý

Written by Michael Hirst (Elizabeth), The Tudors was shot on location in Ireland with a stellar cast that includes Jeremy Northam (Gosford Park) as Sir Thomas More; Sam Neill (Jurassic Park) as Cardinal Wolsey; Gabrielle Anwar (Scent Of A Woman) as Princess Margaret; Henry Czerny (The Pink Panther) as Norfolk; Peter O’Toole’s daughter, Kate O'Toole, as Lady Salisbury; Maria Doyle Kennedy (Sorted) as Catherine of Aragon; and Natalie Dormer (Casanova) as Anne Boleyn.

Ìý

The Tudors successfully premièred on US network Showtime in early April, where it delivered the network's best series debut in three years.

The Windscale Inferno

Ìý

For three days in October 1957, Britain faced a nuclear nightmare. On the edge of the Lake District, a small team of men courageously fought a catastrophic fire in Britain's first atomic weapons factory at Windscale.

Ìý

This documentary, using previously classified material, sees key witnesses re-telling the extraordinary events of Britain's worst nuclear disaster.

Ìý

The Windscale Inferno tells the story of the heroism of the men who battled the fire, yet feel they were betrayed by the government they had worked so hard to serve.

Ìý

The programme goes to the heart of Britain's post-war history, the obsession with secrecy and fears of the intensifying Cold War, and it highlights Britain's dependence on that "special relationship" with the United States.

Ìý

Using dramatic reconstruction, high-level CGI and first-hand testimony from witnesses, The Windscale Inferno reveals the full drama of Britain's worst nuclear disaster.
