Messiah V – The Rapture
Daniel Ryan plays DI Terry Hedges
Daniel Ryan joins the team on Messiah as it returns to ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ One. For Daniel, playing DI Terry Hedges is the latest in a series of law-enforcing roles.

"In between theatre and TV I've managed to work my way up through the police force. I've played uniformed policemen, Detective Constable, Detective Sergeant and I've now made it to Detective Inspector," says Daniel.
Ìý
"They say about people in the police force that there are two ways they can go – they could either be policemen or criminals. That's what seems to have happened in my career because as much as I've been pretending to fight crime for years, I've also been committing them!"
Ìý
Messiah returns for a fifth outing with a new team on the trail of a terrifying and calculating serial killer. Marc Warren heads the cast in the new two-part series.
Ìý
Daniel has previous experience of working with Marc, who plays DCI Joseph Walker.
Ìý
"Marc and I go back about seven or eight years. I think it's quite handy when two actors have already worked together. Of course, the way the story is we have to play against that rapport."
Ìý
Despite the new cast, Daniel feels the story is still Messiah through and through.
Ìý
"When I read it, it felt like classic Messiah material. The formula of them is fantastic and I know that is why the audience responds to them," observes Daniel.
Ìý
"Yet it feels like we started again – it's a new series."
Ìý
The responsibility of overseeing the new team and the new Messiah fell to director Harry Bradbeer, whom Daniel feels more than pulled it off.
Ìý
"Harry is packed full of energy and lets you play the scene – he allows us, as characters, to inhabit the world we are in.
Ìý
"It makes it much more real," says Daniel.
Ìý
"We've all kind of pieced it together as a team, which is very exciting."
Ìý
Messiah has a long and successful history and for Daniel, it is a privilege to be part of the show's second chapter.
Ìý
"Ken Stott, Neil Dudgeon – they've done the ground work for us," he says.
Ìý
"I'm very excited by it."
