Hunter, a new two-part drama from ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Drama Production for ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ One

Anna Koval – DC Sue Mailer

Anna Koval plays DC Sue Mailer, a reliable, practical cop who is struggling with some personal issues of her own whilst in the midst of the case.

Ìý

Anna describes her as "a very feminine woman who leads with her heart. She finds herself in a really tough position: she thinks she's pregnant which is a big event for any woman, but she's not sure whether the father will stick with her."

Ìý

The man in question is DC Mailer's colleague, ladies-man Nick Dyer, who has broken off their affair much to Sue's disappointment. Though she tries to remain as professional as possible her dilemma does not go unnoticed by her colleagues.

Ìý

"Her vulnerability really shows through at certain points and the other staff do notice it. There's pity from a couple of the other men because they know what Nick's like."

Ìý

Though they don't have much in common, Anna believes her boss, Barclay, knows he can rely on DC Mailer.

Ìý

"He doesn't really seem to relate to Mailer much in terms of talking about how she's doing, but he never says anything bad so presumably it means that he's quite pleased. I think he just perceives her as a steady, reliable cop."

Ìý

Sue Mailer is different to her ambitious and confident female colleagues DS Foster and DI Larson.

Ìý

"I don't know if Sue's got aspirations to be a high-flying cop, but she's good at what she does – a loyal, hard working, reliable person.

Ìý

"She's very good with people, so she's useful in family liaison situations – but she's not necessarily a leader. She's not brilliant like Foster or Larson – they are the really fantastic women that have eight arms and three minds and can just do it all."

Ìý

Working in an "office" for most of the shoot was a novelty for the actors, who embraced their desk-based roles. Anna particularly admired the attention to detail for each character.

Ìý

"It was fantastic – if it was decided that my character should have a Blackberry then she got it. There were all sorts of funny bits of paraphernalia on the desks, certain people had stashes of chocolate and all sorts.

Ìý

"You had to wonder who was deciding this about the characters, discovering all the weird little objects someone has put on your desk that they thought would be good for your character!"
