Jarvis Cocker has announced that he is to present a new Sunday show on digital radio station ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ 6 Music.
Jarvis will take over the Sunday afternoon slot, 3.30-5.30pm, from 10 January 2010. The slot was previously home to Stephen Merchant, and, in recent months, special guests including Ricky and Nick from Kaiser Chiefs, Suggs, La Roux and Danny and Gaz from Supergrass.
No stranger to radio, Jarvis has previously presented on ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ 6 Music, Radio 2 and guest edited Radio 4's Today programme.
On his new presenting role at 6 Music, Jarvis says: "It's a great honour to be working for the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳, which I consider to be the greatest broadcaster in the world.
"Sunday afternoon is my dream-slot: that weird time when one week's effectively over and yet the new one's not yet begun – the 'limbo-hours', if you like.
"It is my intention to fill these hours with as much dodgy opinion, crackpot theories, hare-brained schemes and beautiful, beautiful music as is humanly possible. I can't wait to get going."
Bob Shennan, Controller, Radio 2 and 6 Music, says: "Jarvis just loves music. He's an iconic figure so he's perfect for Sundays on 6."
Jarvis is the latest musician to join 6 Music as a presenter. He's in good company with fellow Brit pop star Cerys Matthews (weekdays, 1-4pm) from Catatonia, Elbow lead singer Guy Garvey (Sundays, 9pm-midnight), Iron Maiden front man Bruce Dickinson (Fridays 9pm-midnight), Huey Morgan of Fun Lovin' Criminals (Sundays 2-3.30pm) and Tom Robinson, founder of the Tom Robinson Band (Fridays 7-9pm and Sundays midnight-2am).
³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ 6 Music can be accessed through DAB digital radio, digital TV and online at bbc.co.uk/6music.
