Rhod Sharp's US Election Tour

Up All Night's Rhod Sharp discovers voters' hopes and fears in the north-eastern United States, during the mid-term elections.

The US mid-term elections are being seen as a rebuke to President Obama's performance over the past two years. As voters went to the polls, Up All Night's Rhod Sharp embarked on a journey across the north-eastern United States to meet the real people affected by decisions on Capitol Hill.
He began in Boston and Lynn, Massachusetts where a state-wide health insurance reform means that nearly everyone has adequate cover - at a cost. His next stop-off was Connecticut's coast and the submarine pens of New London. Against the trend of dismal jobs figures, the Electric Boat company at Groton - the world's biggest submarine base - continues to benefit from defence spending on new submarines. Rhod ends his journey in Washington, where he discovers more about Jon Stewart's Rally for Sanity. His satirical news show host encouraged tens of thousands of non-partisan people to gather in Washington DC's National Mall, to wave placards bearing deadpan slogans.
