Portugal The Man & Milkmen

Chris is joined by Portugal. The Man's John Gourley, Milkman of the Year Darren Barnes and some amazing listeners perform 70s sound effects with their mouths.

Chris speaks to John Gourley from Portugal. The Man all about his hit single Feel It Still and how it feels to be nominated for a Grammy award at this Sunday's award ceremony. For Great Job Wednesday Chris meets Darren Barnes whose been named Milkman of the Year and been delivering dairy for over thirty years.

Chris get some listeners on the line to perform 70s sound effects with their mouths. Stefan the cognitive neuro-scientist performs the William Tell Overture on his teeth, Ian from Essex plays the Theme from The Third Man on his nose and Callum mimics the sound of a trimphone!

Plus we ask for your claims to the fame of prizes you've won on 70s gameshows. Vassos is joined in the Sports Locker by the world's best bowls player Greg Harlow. Broadcaster and Vicar Kate Bottley has the mid-week Pause For Thought.

From the Reverend Kate Bottley:

It鈥檚 still Christmas in our house. Not just because officially the Christmas season isn鈥檛 over (it ends a week on Sunday by the way, Candlemas) but because we are still opening presents in Bottley towers. It鈥檚 not that we got an extravagant amount and we haven鈥檛 waded through the pile or that we found an undiscovered stocking under the sofa, no, it鈥檚 that my youngest likes to take his time. Rather than ripping all wrapping at 7am on the 25th our Arthur likes to pace himself. He鈥檚 always been the same. He鈥檚 got quicker in recent years but when he was little Christmas could last well into July. He鈥檇 open one present play with it until he was done before reaching for the next, enjoying the anticipation. He鈥檚 the same with TV box sets and while the rest of the family binge those blockbusters, consuming a whole series in a matter of hours, gorging ourselves on the latest must see TV, an all you can buffet of broadcasting, my lad watches his favourite shows one by one, on the same day and at the same time each week, enjoying the anticipation and letting the cliff-hanger do what it does best, hang.

And I wonder if our Arthur鈥檚 got it right, and I鈥檝e got it wrong, neglecting the joy that鈥檚 to be found in waiting and exercising the Christian virtue of patience. The bible gives us loads of examples of patient people and worthy wait-ers. At Candlemas Christians remember two of them, Simeon and Anna, a very elderly pair, who waited their whole lives living in the temple for years and years to meet God鈥檚 chosen one and recognised him in an instant in the face of Mary鈥檚 son. Simeon declaring that at last he could go on his way a happy man his patience finally paying off.聽

So yet again I鈥檓 going to try and learn a lesson from my son and embrace the wait, seeing life as a marathon and not a sprint. Relishing the sweet feeling of anticipation and trying my best to have just a little more patience.
