Antonio Pappano introduces a new production of Beethoven's only opera, Fidelio, from the Royal Opera House, a story of risk and triumph against a backdrop of revolution.

David Butt Philip plays the political prisoner Florestan, and Lise Davidsen his wife Leonore (disguised as Fidelio) who daringly sets out to save him from certain death. Tobias Kratzer鈥檚 new staging brings together the dark reality of the Reign of Terror during the French Revolution and the conflicts of the modern age to illuminate Fidelio鈥檚 inspiring message of a common humanity.
