Episode 5 of 10

April rears a tiny orphaned badger cub, which she names Miss Honey. Meanwhile, centre vet Liam saves the life of a tiny common sandpiper that has been attacked by a domestic cat.

The acting head of large mammals, April, has a problem – the team have admitted a tiny badger cub, but she is completely alone. April sets about handrearing the little orphan, which she names Miss Honey, but badgers are social animals and the cub needs a friend. It’s a few weeks before Miss Honey is joined by two other orphans – the similarly Roald Dahl-themed Bruce and Matilda. The trio happily adapt to the centre’s custom-made artificial sett before they are returned to the wild.

Meanwhile, centre vet and keen birder Liam has a real challenge on his hand - an injured common sandpiper has been brought in after being being caught by a cat. With an eye injury, it’s a real case of touch-and-go as to whether the little sandpiper will survive. However, aided by the exceptional skills of Liam, the wader recovers and the vet is able to return it to the wild with the help of his family.
