Episode 6
Kaniz struggles with the intake of rescued harbour seals which need to be returned to the wild. Meanwhile, April and Juanita see red squirrel Kite back to a home in the forest.
Head of seals, Kaniz, always finds her herself busy throughout the year. During autumn and winter, the centre admits dozens of orphaned and injured grey seals, but once summer arrives, the focus turns to the more delicate and rarer harbour seals which breed in May and June. This year turns out to be a bumper year, and the centre rescues a record number of harbours, all named after herbs and spices, including clove, garlic and five spice.
In the large mammal unit, April and Juanita have a single red squirrel orphan to deal with. Named Kite, he is nursed back to full health and then returned to the wild in the beautiful setting of Argaty, a farm specially managed for conservation. April and Juanita even manage to revisit him once he has made himself at home!
