Drama based on the life and songs of poet Mary MacPherson, known as Mà iri Mhòr nan Òran. The film brings her life, poetry and legacy to life.
In 1871 a miscarriage of justice put Mary in prison. This had a profound effect on her and from then on she started creating poetry. Around the same time grievances about land ownership and the position of crofters led to political movements. Mary’s poetry tapped into that time and in song helped spread support the drive for fairer land tenure. The film soundtrack features Mary’s most celebrated poetry sung by Cathy Ann MacPhee.
