Riots and Revolutions: My Arab Journey - Egypt and Bahrain

At a protest in Bahrain鈥檚 capital, Manama, Nel meets Dr Fatima Haji, who helped to treat injured protesters during the failed uprising at the Pearl Roundabout last year. She tells Nel that, as they tried to cope with hundreds of casualties, the police came into Salmaniya hospital, took control of it and prevented doctors from continuing their work. A month later, she was arrested in her home, and later convicted in a military court of aiding the protesters in their rebellion. She was one of 20 medics who were sentenced to jail terms of 5 to 15 years. The government maintains the doctors were taking over the hospital and using it as a rebel base. They have been granted a retrial in a civilian court which is still in process.
