Meet Michael Collie...
Michael is one of the presenters at ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Midlands Today and presents on ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Hereford & Worcester at the weekend. He first came to the Midlands to study Drama & Theatre Arts at the University of Birmingham in 1981 and apart from one year in London he has been here ever since.
Ìý
Aside from an early appearance on ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Radio 4's Woman's Hour when he was just two-years-old, Michael's professional broadcasting career started at ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ WM as the early morning news reader in 1986.
Ìý
He then moved onto national radio, presenting You & Yours on ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Radio 4 as well as reporting for BFBS Forces Radio and the ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ World Service.
Ìý
In 1989 Michael joined Countryfile, ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ One's long-running rural affairs programme produced in Birmingham.
Ìý
Two years later he became a presenter on Top Gear and later Sky TV's Automotive Channel. Michael then went on to present two series of the popular canoeing show Paddles Up, followed by a spell presenting The Midlands at Westminster.
Ìý
It was while working on Countryfile that he became one of the first presenters of London's pioneering TV news station, Channel One. Michael clearly missed the bright lights of Birmingham and he returned ‘home’ in 1995 to join the Midlands Today presentation team.
Ìý
Now, as well as presenting Midlands Today and The Politics Show, Michael has worked as a news reader for ³ÉÈËÂÛ̳ Radio 2.ÌýHe has also hosted concerts for the Philharmonic Orchestra in London, and the world-famous City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
Ìý
He lives in Worcestershire with his wife, four daughters, two cats, a hamster and varying numbers of chickens. Michael admits to a fascination for older bizarre cars and an ambition to own a Cadillac hearse!ÌýHe is patron of two Midlands charities.
