WFP: 'Smallholders should be part of the agricultural value chain'

For decades the UN's World Food Programme (WFP) has helped to feed the most vulnerable people around the world, especially those who have been made hungry by droughts, flooding and disasters that destroy their crops. A lot of their work is in Africa.

Ertharin Cousin, the executive director of the WFP, says that these days the organisation has moved beyond humanitarian support and is now focused on helping smallholders to move into business and enterprise. She believes that both farmers and donors need a change in approach.
