Crime – Bob and James

The animator says: The conversation between Bob and James really stood out to me, a father opening up not only about his past but his emotions, Not hiding any gritty details. I created a character to represent the often multifaceted nature of storytelling especially between a father and son.
From there I tried not to follow an obvious literal approach but more so a metaphoric one. Having the pieces of the character disintegrate throughout. Showing the difficulties of communication from the probing questions of a son. Using found video textures to create an uneasy textural composition using rocks, the sea and an interesting arrangement of pipes to marry with the animation.
Using quite a linear structure as well as a simple colour scheme, I morphed each aspect of the film together so it ultimately becomes a compact journey to which a conversation can be.
