Falklands – Laurie and Brian
Directed and Animated by Eoin McLoughlin

The animator says: I wanted to create a surreal and tense environment which captures the feeling of being forced to live in an area in which there is a bomb that could go off and kill everyone inside. I also wanted to have a character that is easy to animate, yet be expressive in the situation he is in. The black and white contract style was inspired by vorticism paintings, the interior of the HMS Belfast as well as the set designs from the German Expressionism film “The Cabinet of Dr Cagliari”. I felt that these design choices created the suitable feeling for a subject that requires the feelings of fear and tension. I started the design with the interior of the ship. Then as the character discovers the bomb, the environment become more abstract and surreal which represents the character being trapped in this dangerous world.
