Skinny Fat

A gay man confronts his belly fat in a shop changing room, triggering him to relive an abusive past relationship. But who can save him from his own body?

Skinny Fat, written and directed by Mathew David, is a Welsh LGBTQ+ comedy-drama based on real life events.

Mathew (Mathew David), a 33 year old gay man, is shopping with his mum, Bernie (played by British comedy legend Ruth Madoc). But trying to find the perfectly fitting shirt is difficult: the smalls are too small and the mediums are too…. big. Mathew’s belly fat being the focus of his attention causes his mother to be concerned about his behaviour.

Flashbacks to an abusive relationship with his ex, Aled (François Pandolfo) cause him to go deeper down the rabbit hole. Being the the loving mother, Bernie tries, through kindness and charm, to break him out of this dangerous path of self-sabotage. But can she pull him out of the darkness? Will Mathew be happy in his own skin? Or will he be destined to live in fear of his own body.
